Wedding Gowns
Experts recommend proper cleaning and storage of your wedding gown within 1-6 months after the wedding to preserve the original beauty and color. Discoloration of the fabric can be caused by the damaging fumes of a plastic storage bag and by your own body oils that have not been professionally removed. Over time, your gown may develop brown spots from unseen sugar stains (ie champaign) that have bonded to the fabric. Tanning products and body make-up appear inside the bodice of many wedding gowns. It is so important to have this professionally treated and removed.
At NW Drycleaner the preservation process begins with a full inspection. Each gown is processed individually by professionals who are experienced in caring for delicate fabrics. Bead work and fancy lace are carefully protected through the whole process. Any visible stains are hand-treated and an anti-sugar stain treatment is used. Repairs will also be done if needed at no additional cost. After the cleaning process is completed, you may personally inspect your gown before it reaches the final step of the preservation process.
The final step includes proper packaging and storage. To prevent discoloration and deteriation of the fabric we use only acid-free (acid burns fibers) or buffered materials. The bodice form is used to maintain the original shape. This also creates a beautiful presentation. Sleeves and folds are packed with tissue paper.
There are several ways to store your wedding gown. Choose from the popular chest with a window display, a chest using muslim packaging or a muslim garment bag with a cloth-covered hanger. We used only musuem quality preservation products. Your gown is then carefully placed into the special container you have chosen. The preservation chest should be placed in an area of moderate climate (humidity and temperature). Extreme temperature changes can cause damage.
